Monooka’s Caravan

Award-winning Romanian singer-songwriter, puppeteer and actress, Monooka performs traditional songs from  the Carpathian mountains in a powerful collaboration with three British musicians: fiddler Meg Hamilton, guitarist Matt Bacon and double bassist Paul Moylan. With refreshing spontaneity and a distinctive voice, Monooka blends fiery Gypsy music with the eclectic Romanian songs of her roots.  She mixes story telling with marionettes, soulful songs and unique artistic freedom.

• Notes: Spend an afternoon with puppeteer, singer, song writer, actress, poet and film maker Monica Lucia Madas aka Monooka. As a professional puppeteer with 13 years experience she has performed at the prestigious Romanian puppet theater Tandarica and the Arcadia Puppet Theater in Transylvania. She moved to London in 2007 and has since been performing her puppetry and live music in venues across London including Little Angel Theater. Monooka sings songs for dance and songs for the soul – based on gypsy music and the doina – their poetic and free rhythm melody characterize her repertoire.
